How to move row up/down or column left/right in Excel?

If you have two lists of data and now you want to move Column A right to Column B as the screenshots shown. How can you do? Now I will tell you a very easy way to move the columns right/ left or move the rows up/down in Excel.

Move column left/right

There is a group of shortcuts can help you quickly move the column.

1. Select the column you want to move, and then put the cursor at the column header border until the cursor change to arrow cross.

2. Then drag the column and press Shift key together to the right of the column you want to be right of it, you can see there appears a I line. Then release the key and mouse. You can see the Column A moves right to the Column B.

Ctrl + Shift + Down is used by 66 programs, so what this popular key combination does? Vertical shift D = 3; In words: the 2 tells us it will be 2 times taller than usual, so Amplitude = 2; the usual period is 2 π, but in our case that is 'sped up' (made shorter) by the 4 in 4x, so Period = π /2; and the −0.5 means it will be shifted to the right by 0.5; lastly the +3 tells us the center line is y = +3, so Vertical Shift = 3. If you want to move the column left, you can select the column and drag it with Shift key to the left of the column you want to left to it.

Move row up/down

To move row up or down, you just need to do as follow.

1. Select the whole row you want to move, and put the cursor at the row header border until the arrow cross appears.

2. Then drag the row and press Shift key together to the down of the row you want to be down of it, you can see there appears a I-I line. Then release the key and mouse. You can see the Row 2 moves below to the Row 5.

If you want to move the row up, you can select the row and drag it with Shift key to the up of the row you want to above to it.

Tip: You can move multiple adjacent rows or columns at once time.

Move Column left or right with Kutools for Excel

If you have Kutools for Excel installed in Excel, you can use the Navigation function to quickly move columns left or right or the specific position as you need.

After installing Kutools for Excel, please do as below:（Free Download Kutools for Excel Now!)

1. Enable the sheet contains the columns you want to move, click Kutools > Navigation, then in theNavigation pane, click Column list tab.

2. In the Column list list box, select the column name you want to move, the hold the mouse to drag the column to the position you want to move to.

Now, the column has been moved.

Tip: Also you can use the arrows in the Column list to up or down the column.

Swap columns or rows with Kutools for Excel

If you want to exchange two columns or rows' contents, you can apply Kutools for Excel's Swap Ranges function.

Shift Down In Excel
