TeXstudio

TeXstudio is a free and open-source editor used for creating LaTeX documents. This editor is a feature-rich integrated application that helps you to write LaTeX documents with ease. The prominent features of TeXstudio are the PDF viewer, word-level synchronization, syntax highlighting, and reference checking. TeXStudio is a free-to-use open-source LaTeX editor, open-source meaning that you can access the source code for the program. TeXStudio was made by the developer Benito van der Zander in the year 2008. TeXStudio was made available for download in 2009. TeXstudio Currently, TeXstudio is my first choice for a LaTeX editor. It has all the features mentioned before and I like the clean interface. In addition, I found really helpful the image thumbnails shown when placing the mouse over an image entry in the tex document. TeXstudio is a tool for developing Latex documents. To Configure in Windows, do the following: Download and Install MikTex; Download and Install TeXstudio; Download and Install ActivePerl for Glossaries; Set TexStudio to use a Build directory Create a folder called build in the same directory as the.tex files.

Prepare to set aside at least an hour of your time to install LaTeX. You should also be on campus or using a high-speed internet connection, since you will have to download a large file. You need to install two different parts, a LaTeX compiler (MiKTeX) and an editor (TeXstudio).

  1. Visit http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/windows/protext/ and click on the protext.exe file to download it. This is the proTeXt installer, and it’s quite large (~2.5 GB), so be prepared to wait a bit while it downloads. (Note: disregard the Last modified date; the latest version will be here at any given time.)
  1. Once the file has downloaded, double-click on protext.exe. If you see a security warning, click Run.
  2. Extract the installation files to your desktop:
    1. In the file extracting window, set the destination folder to one called 'protext' on your Desktop: click the Browse button. In the Browse for Folder window, click on Desktop and then click the Make New Folder button. Name the new folder protext, click on the new folder to select it, and then click OK to close the Browse for Folder window. Now click Extract. If a security window pops up, choose Yes, and then just wait, the extraction process will continue.

Once the files have been extracted, the window will close.

Notes and references[edit]

  1. ^'Source' means you see and edit the TeX source files. 'WYSIWYM' = What You See Is What You Mean, i.e. you see and edit formatted text. WYSIWYG means that see the output file automatically updated during the edit. Note that some PDF viewers (e.g. evince) automatically reload the PDF document when it is updated on the disk. So, any 'source' TeX editor can be turned into partial WYSIWYG editor by opening such a reader in an adjacent window.
  2. ^Not a full TeX editor. Only limited to math expressions only.
  3. ^Support for non-linux systems considered experimental.
  4. ^Notepad++ can execute Tex viewers
  5. ^Inverse search means that one can locate the relevant part of the source code from the viewer (e.g., double-clicking in dvi or pdf file brings up the appropriate line/paragraph in the latex code)
  6. ^On Windows some pdf viewers like Sumatra PDF or Adobe Reader don't use command line arguments for forward search, but the editor sends the document position to them using Dynamic Data Exchange
  7. ^Requires installation of extra package.
  8. ^A plug-in is required.
  9. ^LaTeX panel & Matrix panel
  10. ^Requires installation of extra package
  11. ^Starts up to previous state including the current editing point.
  12. ^RTL support means Right to Left language support.
  13. ^configurable as an option of the Emacs editor
  14. ^With usual section{} notation, Kile collapses equations and figures, but not sections. Collapsing of sections is possible with non-standard notation begin{section}{}..end{section}{}, but it eliminates sections from Structure View. An alternative possibility is bracketing sections with comments %BEGIN and %END.
  15. ^This will have to be set up manually.
  16. ^Provides a subset of the regular expression syntax implemented in the Perl scripting language, but fully supports Unicode ( ’ Issue 194: Add advanced regexp options to Find/Replace )
  17. ^Template file in resource directory ( ’ Documentation of the code completion feature )
  18. ^Starts up to previous state including the current editing point.
  19. ^RTL support means Right to Left language support.
